What awkifir is

awkifir is a Chrome extension and web service that estimates the water used by AI services you interact with, then charges your card to offset that usage through donations to water and environmental charities.

Your account

When you subscribe, you create an account linked to your email address. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials (magic link emails) secure. One account per person.

What you're paying for

• $3/month subscription fee — covers the service, extension, and dashboard.
• Usage-based offset charges — variable amounts charged to your card based on your AI usage and your chosen offset level (100×, 200×, or 300×). These charges happen automatically at the cadence you select (daily, weekly, or monthly).

All charges appear on your card as "awkifir" via Stripe. You can view your charge history on the billing dashboard.

Water usage estimates

Our water usage estimates are based on publicly available research and our best-effort methodology (detailed at awkifir.com/methodology). These are estimates, not exact measurements. Actual water usage by AI providers may vary. We make no guarantee that our estimates are precise.

Where your money goes

Offset charges are donated to the charitable organizations you select in your settings:

• charity: water — clean water projects
• The Nature Conservancy — climate and conservation
• Electronic Frontier Foundation — digital rights and policy

We do not take a cut of offset charges. The $3/month subscription fee covers our operating costs.

Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time. Unprocessed offset charges for the current period will still be charged. No refunds for past charges, but you can contact us if something looks wrong.

The extension

The extension runs in your browser and tracks which AI services you visit and how you interact with them (page visits, message counts). It does not read, store, or transmit the content of your conversations. All usage data is stored locally in your browser.

Limitation of liability

awkifir is provided "as is." We do our best to keep things running, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of awkifir, including inaccurate water estimates or failed charges. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the last 12 months.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
